Serengeti… or Middle Earth?

Nah, it’s the Patrick Dougherty twig sculpture – “Diamonds in the Rough” – at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. At least five tractor-trailer loads of sticks and saplings were used, mainly young red maple and sweet gum saplings. With the help of volunteers, it took the artist three weeks to complete the construction. It’s cool… go see it!

What a contrast: a spaceship and a Middle Earth dwelling.
This photo doesn't do justice to the actual size of the structure.
The attention to detail is impressive, in contrast to the simplicity of most "twig" furniture.
