I went to Wrenn Mangum’s solo Elvis tribute performance at the Virginia Museum recently and enjoyed it very much. Wrenn has a great voice, and accompanies himself on Telecaster quite well. One suggestion: Yes, Elvis had a little fun with the audience every now and then by twisting the lyrics – either intentionally or unintentionally. Not to take things too seriously is good, but too much of a good thing can be just too much. To me, a tribute is a tribute – leave out or at least minimize the surprise lyrical twists.
