A Muscovyte in the Park

A Muscovy duck (Cairina moschata) has appeared on the lake at Deep Run Park. Muscovy ducks are native to Mexico, Central & South America, but generally domesticated in the U.S., except for small feral populations in the deep southern U.S. It’s likely it didn’t fly in during migration. It’s huge – for it’s species – so maybe it got too big for it’s owner. It’s odd looking among the mallards and Canadian geese, but strangely beautiful in its oddness.

Bigger than a mallard, smaller than a goose.
