Bananarama

In Central Virginia it’s time to bring the banana “palms” in. The trunk layers have an amazing blend of translucent colors as the plants are dry-rooted to prepare the corms for winter storage.

The trunks are actually layers of leaves.

Bananas need a long growing season to produce fruit – perhaps 8 months – at steady temperatures of 78 – 86F.

Bananas require a lot of water and high humidity, as the large leaves evaporate moisture at a rapid rate.
